A master's job is
never done, it lives on through the ages.
The Installation of 1938 was interspersed with musical selections and a good time was enjoyed by all, light refreshments and dancing rounded out the evening.
In the January stated meeting there was again mention of new toilets for the Men's room and the Building Trustee's were on the job securing bids for the work and defining the proper way to proceed. In the following month the Building Committee was ordered to attend the stated meeting and inform the Brethren of what was to take place to the interior of the Lodge room.
In March the lowest bid was ordered to be taken and for the work to commence on the inside of the Lodge room. Also due to the rising water table, a sump pump was ordered purchased and spots cut into the floor to create a low point in which to insert the pump. The last of these was covered up in the summer of 2000 when we remodeled the dining hall and finally put a floor in it.
In March, after a third degree, a Bro. H. Perry of Olive Branch Lodge in Tulare gave a very interesting speech down in the dining hall about the apprehension of "dealers of illicit drugs", a problem that still to this day plagues America. In the April minutes show that a Bro. Coutts was thanked for the lumber used to build the tables in the dining hall. These same tables were removed in the dining hall remodel of 2000 after 62 good years of service.
In June the employees of Southern California Edison put on a third degree in Big Creek for over 100 people. A nice turkey dinner was enjoyed by all before the degree. In August there was discussion about getting new carpet for the Lodge room, a committee was formed and ordered to report in future months.
In October there was discussion of the new Masonic Education manual that was put out by the Grand Lodge of California. The committee who looked into it didn't agree with the Grand Lodge but chose to stay quiet than to go against the Grand Lodge. (This is a custom that has not been in use all of these years by Clovis Lodge hehehe )
The last two months of the year were like cram months and they got a lot of things through the agenda. They elected the new officers, made a motion and vote that carried to present the new Master Mason's with a lapel pin and trowel at their third degree, no on carpeting, new cleaning and repairing of the jewels, collars, and aprons, and Brother L. E. Weldon PM and charter member, cautioned them against all of these "frivolous purchases" when the Lodge was in need of structural necessities.
